To the Romans 1: 1-7: Salutation
1 Paul, a slave of Yeshua the Messiah, called as an emissary set apart for God’s good news, 2 which was announced previously through his prophets in the holy writings, 3 about his son, who comes from David’s seed according to the flesh, 4 when the designated son of God (came) in power according to the spirit of holiness from the resurrection of the dead, Yeshua the Messiah our lord, 5 through whom we received grace and a mission for obedience to the faith among all the gentiles for the sake of his name, 6 among whom you are, and you are called by Yeshua the Messiah, 7 to all those who are beloved of God in Rome, the holy ones who are called, grace to you and peace from God our father and our lord Yeshua the Messiah.

To the Romans 1: 8-15: Paul’s Desire to Visit Rome
8 Indeed, first of all I thank my God through Yeshua the Messiah for all of you, for your trust has been announced through all the world.9 For God, whom I worship in my spirit in the good news of his son, is my witness that that I make a memorial of you without ceasing 10 in my prayers, always asking if perhaps now I might be allowed by God’s will to come to you. 11 For I long to see you, so that I may share your spiritual gift in order to strengthen you, 12 and this is to be encouraged among you through both yours and my trust in one another. 13 And I don’t want to be ignorant of you, brothers, because I yearned greatly to come to you, and I was hindered again the second time, in order that I might have some fruit, both among you just as among the rest of the gentiles. 14 I am a debtor to both Greeks and barbarians, both wise men and fools, 15 so that the eagerness with me and with you in Rome might proclaim the good news.

To the Romans 1: 16-17: The Power of the Gospel
16 For I am not ashamed of the good news, for it is God’s power for salvation to everyone who trusts, first the Jew and then the Greek. 17 For God’s righteousness is revealed in it, from trust for trust, as it is written, The righteous will live by trust.

To the Romans 1: 18-32: The Guilt of Mankind
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all impiety and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth by unrighteousness, 19 therefore what can be known about God is apparent to them: for God appeared to them. 20 For his invisible (attributes) since the creation of the world have been seen clearly _ to the doers, or his eternal and godly power, so that they are without excuse, 21 therefore, knowing God, they didn’t glorify or thank him as God, but rather were given to foolish speculation in their discussions and their senseless heart was darkened. 22 Thinking themselves wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of God for the likeness of an appearance of mortal man and birds and beasts and snakes.
24 Therefore God gave them over to the desires of their hearts, for uncleanness, the defiling of their bodies with each other 25 who exchanged the truth of God for a lie and bowed to and worshiped creation rather than the creator, who is praised forever, amen. 26 For this reason God gave them over to the lustful desires of shame, for even their women exchanged the natural function (of sex) for an unnatural one, 27 and likewise the males abandon the natural function of desire and are consumed in their lust for one another, males doing shameless acts with males and in themselves receiving the penalty that they should for a lie. 28 And just as they didn’t worship God when they had knowledge, God gave them over to a corrupted mind, to do things that aren’t fitting, 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, evil, deceit, filthiness, full of corruption, murder, strife, lying, evil for evil’s sake, gossip, 30 slanderers, hating God, insolent, arrogant, boasters, makers of evil plans, disobedient to parents, 31 without understanding, disloyal, without human affection, unmerciful, 32 about whom we know the requirement of God is that those who do such things are worthy of death, not only those who do these things but rather also those who approve of the doers.

To the Romans 2: 1-16: The Righteous Judgment of God
1 Therefore you are without excuse, each man who judges: for whatever you judge another person for, you condemn yourself for it, since you, the judge, do the same things. 2 And we know that God’s judgment on those who do these things is according to truth. 3 And consider this, man who judges those who do these things and yet does them, that you might escape God’s judgment? 4 Or do you despise the richness of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance? 5 But according to your stubborn and unrepentant heart you store up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath and the revelation of the righteous judgment of God 6 who pays each person back according to his deeds: 7 to those of good deeds according to obedience, glory and honor and imperishable eternal life to those who seek, 8 but to those who are selfish and disobedient to the truth but obedient to unrighteousness, wrath and fury. 9 Trouble and calamity are for each soul of man that practices evil, first the Jew’s and then the Greek’s: 10 but glory and honor and peace for each one who practices good, first to the Jew and then to the Greek: 11 for there is no favoritism with God. 12 For whoever sinned without law, he will also be destroyed without law, and whoever sinned under the law, he will be judged by the law: 13 for those who haven’t heard the law aren’t righteous before God, but rather those who do the law will be declared righteous. 14 For when a people that doesn’t have the law does the things of the law by nature, they who do not have the law become a law to themselves: 15 they show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, their conscience and their conflicting or defending thoughts show this to be true, 16 on the day when God judges the hidden things of men according to my good news through Messiah Yeshua.

To the Romans 2: 17-3: 8
17 And if you, a Jew, call yourself by and rest upon the law and boast in God 18 and know his will and discern what is best, holding to the law, 19 and have made yourself a guide for the blind and a light for those in darkness, 20 a leader for the foolish, a teacher for children, one having the content of knowledge and truth in the law: 21 therefore, when you teach another, don’t you teach yourself? When you preach not to steal, do you steal? 22 When you say not to commit adultery, do you commit adultery? When you detest idols, do you rob temples? 23 He who boasts in the law, you dishonor God through violating the law: 24 for God’s name is blasphemed among the gentiles because of you, as it is written. 25 For indeed circumcision is owed if you practice the law: but if you are disobedient to the law, your circumcision has become uncircumcision. 26 Therefore if uncircumcision keeps the requirements of the law, won’t it be counted as circumcision? 27 And uncircumcision by nature judges the law, keeping you, one disobedient to the law, through the scripture and circumcision. 28 For what appears Jewish is not, nor what appears to be circumcision in the flesh, 29 but he who is Jewish in secret is, and the circumcision of the heart in the spirit is not written, for which the praise is not from men but from God.
1 Therefore what is the advantage of the Jew or what is the benefit of circumcision? 2 Much in every way. [For] indeed it is that the words of God were first believed (by the Jews). 3 So what? If some believed, might their unbelief nullify God’s faith? 4 Absolutely not: but let God be true, and every man a liar, as it is written,
So that you may be made righteous by your words and conquer when you are judged.
5 And if our unrighteousness is changed into righteousness by God, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous to turn aside his wrath? I am speaking as a man (would). 6 Absolutely not: otherwise, how will God judge the world? 7 And if God’s truth overflows in praise of him in my spirit, then how can I be condemned as a sinner? 8 And not as we blaspheme and as some of us say that ‘We will do evil, so that good may come?’ Their condemnation is deserved.

To the Romans 3: 9-20: There is None Righteous
9 So what? Were we brought in advance? By no means: for we accuse both all Jews and all Greeks to be because of sin, 10 as it is written that
There is no one righteous, not one, 11 there is no one who understands, there is no one who seeks God. 12 All excluded him, therefore they are worthless: there is no one who does kindness, [there is not] even one. 13 Their throat is an open grace, their tongues lied, the poison of asps was on their lips: 14 their mouth is full of bitterness, 15 their wandering feet shed blood, 16 ruin and destruction are in their roads, 17 and they have not known a way of peace. 18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.
19 And we know that whatever the law says it says to those under the law, so that every mouth may be shut and all creation be subject to God: 20 therefore all flesh is not justified by works before him, for through the law is discovery of sin.

To the Romans 3: 21-31: Righteousness through Faith
21 And now apart from the law God’s righteousness has been revealed, being witnessed by the law and the prophets, 22 and the righteousness of God is through faith in Yeshua the Messiah for all who trust. For there is no distinction, 23 for all have sinned and fallen short of God’s glory 24 being made righteous by the gift of his grace through the redemption in the Messiah Yeshua: 25 whom God set as the means of forgiveness through trust in his blood to show forth his righteousness through overlooking the sins which happened before 26 in God’s forbearance, to show forth his righteousness in the current time, so that he might be righteous and made righteous by trust in Yeshua.
27 So where is boasting? It is shut out. By what law? The one of works? No, but rather by the law of trust, 28 for we affirm that a man is made righteous by trust without the law of works. 29 Or is God only the God of the Jews? And not of the gentiles? Yes, also of the gentiles, 30 since there is one God who makes righteous circumcision from trust and uncircumcision through trust. 31 Therefore do we nullify the law through trust? Certainly not: rather, we establish the law.

To the Romans 4: 1-12: The Example of Abraham
1 Therefore what shall we say our forefather Abraham found according to the flesh? 2 For if Abraham was made righteous, he has a reason to boast, but not with God. 3 For what does the scripture say? Abraham trusted God and it was credited to him as righteousness. 4 And the reward of the worker isn’t considered according to grace but according to duty, 5 but to the one who is not working but trusting in the wicked one being made righteous, his trust is for righteousness. 6 Just as David also spoke a blessing on the man whom God counts righteous without works,
7 Blessed are those whose unrighteousnesses are forgiven and whose sins are covered: 8 blessed is the man whose the lord will certainly not count.
9 So is this blessing for circumcision or also for uncircumcision? For we say, “Trust was counted as righteousness to Abraham.” 10 So how was it counted? In circumcision or in uncircumcision? Not in circumcision but rather in uncircumcision: 11 and he received the sign of circumcision as a proof of the righteousness of trust that was in uncircumcision, so that he is the father of all who trust when uncircumcised, so that it may [also] be counted to them [as] righteousness, 12 and the father of circumcision for those who don't live only by circumcision but also follow the footsteps of our father who trusted when uncircumcised, Abraham.

To the Romans 4: 13-25: The Promise Realized through Faith
13 For the promise to Abraham or his seed, their inheritance of the world, was not through law but through the righteousness of trust. 14 For if they are heirs from the law, trust is emptied and the promise is nullified: 15 For the law nullifies wrath: and there is no law nor violation. 16 Therefore it is by trust, so that according to grace, the promise might be trustworthy to all the seed, not only the seed according to law, but also that according to the trust of Abraham, who is the father of all of us, 17 as it is written that ‘I made you the father of all the nations,’ before which he trusted in God who gives life to the dead and calls what does not exist to exist: 18 who from hope, with hope, trusted that he would become the father of all the nations according to the saying, ‘Thus will your seed be,’ 19 and not being weak in trust he understood that his own body was [now] dead, when he was a hundred, and that mother Sarah was barren: 20 but he didn’t doubt God’s promise with a lack of trust but rather was strengthened in trust, giving glory to God 21 and accomplishing what was promised. He is powerful and he did it. 22 Therefore it was [also] counted to him as righteousness.
23 It isn’t written for him alone that it was counted to him 24 but also for you, to whom it is going to be counted, to those who trust in him who raised our lord Yeshua from the dead, 25 who was handed over for our sins and raised for our righteousness.

To the Romans 5: 1-11: Results of Justification
1 Therefore, being made righteous by trust, we have peace with God through our lord Yeshua the Messiah 2 through whom we have received entrance [by trust] to this grace in which we have stood and we boast in hope of God’s glory. 3 And not only this, but we boast in troubles, knowing that trouble works patience, 4 and patience produces character, and character hope. 5 And hope will not be put to shame, for God’s love was poured out on our hearts through the holy spirit whom he gave us. 6 For while we were still sinners, at the perfect time, the Messiah died for the ungodly. 7 For someone will barely die for a righteous man: for a good man someone might even dare to die: 8 but God established his own love for us, for when we were still sinners the Messiah died for us. 9 Therefore, much more we are made righteous now by his blood and saved by him from wrath. 10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through his son's death, how much more will we be reconciled and saved in his life: 11 and not only that, but we also boast in God through our lord Yeshua the Messiah, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

To the Romans 5: 12-21: Adam and Christ
12 Therefore, just as through one man sin came into the world and death through sin, and as death comes to all men, for all have sinned; 13 for sin came into the world through law, and sin was not counted when there was no law, 14 but rather death reigned from Adam to Moses and over those who didn’t sin in the likeness of the transgression of Adam who is a type of what is coming.
15 But the grace is not like the transgression: for if the many died for one man’s transgression, how much more did God’s grace and gift in the grace of one man, Yeshua the Messiah, overflow onto the many. 16 And the gift is not as that through one sinner: for indeed the judgment of the one was condemnation, but the grace for many sinners is righteousness. 17 For if, because of one man’s transgression, death reigned through one man, how much more do we receive the abundance of grace and gift that will reign in life through one man, Yeshua the Messiah.
18 Therefore, as one transgression was for condemnation to all men, so also through one act of righteousness is righteous life for all men: 19 for as through one man’s disobedience the many were accounted sinners, so also through one man’s obedience the many were accounted righteous. 20 And law came, so that transgression might increase: but when sin increased, grace abounded even more, 21 so that as sin ruled in death, grace might rule through righteousness for eternal life through our lord Yeshua the Messiah.

To the Romans 6: 1-14: Dead to Sin but Alive in Christ
1 So what shall we say? Shall we remain in sin, so that grace may increase? 2 No way! Those who died to sin, how can they live in it? 3 Or do you not know that, as much as we were baptized into the Messiah Yeshua, we were baptized into his death? 4 Therefore we were buried into death through baptism, so that just as the Messiah was raised from among the dead through the father’s glory, we might also walk in newness of life. 5 For we become sharers in the likeness of his death, but we will also be of the resurrection: 6 knowing this, that our old man has been crucified, so that the body of sin might be destroyed, so that we might no longer serve sin: 7 for he who died has been made righteous from sin. 8 And if we died with the Messiah, we trust that we will also live with him, 9 knowing that the Messiah, having been raised from among the dead, can no longer die, death no longer dominates him. 10 For he who died, died to sin once and for all: and he who lives, lives for God. 11 Thus also count yourselves [to be] dead to sin and living for God in the Messiah Yeshua.
12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, to obey its lusts, 13 nor present your members to sin as instruments of unrightousness, but rather present yourselves to God as those who live from among the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For sin will not dominate you: for you are not under law but under grace.

To the Romans 6: 15-23: Slaves of Righteousness
15 So what? Shall we sin, since we are not under law but under grace? No way! 16 Don’t you know that when you present yourselves as slaves in obedience, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, whether sin into death or obedience into righteousness? 17 And thanks be to God that you were slaves of sin and you will obey from the heart him who handed down an example of the teaching, 18 and being freed from sin, you were made slaves to righteousness. 19 I speak in a human way according to the weakness of your flesh. For as you presented your members as slaves to uncleanness and lawlessness for lawlessness, thus now present your members as slaves to righteousness for holiness. 20 For if you were slaves to sin, you are freemen to righteousness. 21 So what fruit did you have then? That of which you are now ashamed, for their end is death. 22 But now, being freed from sin, you are enslaved to God and have your fruit for holiness, and its end is eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in the Messiah Yeshua, our lord.

To the Romans 7: 1-6: An Analogy from Marriage
1 Or don’t you know, brothers, for I speak to those who know the law, that the law dominates a man as long as he lives? 2 For woman married to a living husband is bound by law: but if the man dies, the law of the husband is nullified. 3 Therefore while her husband is living she is revealed as an adulteress if she belongs to another man: but if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so that she is not an adulteress when she takes another husband. 4 Just so, my brothers, you also have died to law through the body of the Messiah, so that you belong to another, to him who was raised from among the dead, so that you may bear fruit for God. 5 For when we were in the flesh, the sufferings through law of sin were working in our members, so that we bore fruit for death: 6 but now the law has been nullified and we have died to what hinders us, in order that we may serve in newness of spirit and not in oldness of letters.
