To the Thessalonians A 1: 2-10: The Thessalonians’ Faith and Example
2 We always thank God for all of you, making mention of you in our prayers, endlessly 3 remembering you for the work of trust and the labor of love and the patience of hope in our lord Yeshua the Messiah before God, even our father, 4 having known, brothers loved by God, your choice, 5 that our good news might not be realized among you only in word, but rather in power and in the holy spirit and [in] much certainty, just as you know we were such [among] you through you. 6 And you were imitators of us and the lord, receiving the word in much distress with the joy of the holy spirit, 7 so that you became an example to those who trust in Macedonia and in Achaea. 8 The word of the lord has gone out from you not only in Macedonia and [in] Achaea but also in every place your trust that came out from God, so that we don’t need to say anything. 9 For they themselves announced about you what kind of visit we would have with you, and how you turned to God from false gods to serve the living and true God 10 and to expect his son from heaven, whom he raised from [among] the dead, Yeshua, who saves us from the coming wrath.

To the Thessalonians A 2: 1-16: Paul’s Ministry in Thessalonica
1 For you know, my brothers, our visit to you, that it wasn’t without result, 2 but rather having suffered before and been mistreated, as you know, among the Philippians, we had boldness in our God to tell you the good news with much struggle. 3 For our appeal is not from deception nor from impurity nor with guile, 4 but rather just as we have been tested by God to trust in the good news, thus we say, not as those trying to please men but God, who judges our hearts. 5 For we did nothing with a word of flattery, as you know, nor with a false motive of greed, God is the witness, 6 not seeking praise from men, not from you nor from others, 7 with difficulty being able to be as emissaries of the Messiah, but rather we became infants in your midst. Just like a nurse taking care of her own children, 8 so, longing for you, we resolved to give you not only God’s good news but also our own lives*, since you have become beloved to us. 9 For remember, brothers, our labor and hardship: night and day, so as not to burden you with anything, we preached God’s good news among you. 10 You are witnesses along with God, that we were godly and righteous and blameless to you who trust, 11 as you know, (treating) each one of you like a father (treats) his children 12 urging and encouraging and witnessing you to walk in a manner holy to God who calls you into his own kingdom and glory. 13 And therefore even we thank God constantly, for receiving word of a report of God from us you accepted not the word of man but rather, as it is truly, God’s word, who also works among you for those who trust. 14 For you became imitators, brothers, of the communities of God that are in Judea in the Messiah Yeshua, for you suffered the other things and you were imprisoned by your own just as they were by the Judeans, 15 who also killed the lord Yeshua and the prophets and persecuted us and didn’t please God and opposed all men 16 forbidding us to speak to the gentiles so that they might be saved, so that their sins always reach the full measure. Wrath has come on them to the end.

To the Thessalonians A 2: 17-3: 13: Paul’s Desire to Visit the Church Again
17 And you, my brothers, being separated from you for a season of time, in face not in heart, we worked all the harder with much desire to see your face. 18 Therefore we tried to come to you—I myself, Paul, more than once—but Satan prevented us. 19 For what is our hope or joy or crown of boasting before our lord Yeshua in his coming? Isn’t it you? 20 For you are our glory and joy.
1 Therefore, passing over nothing in silence, we didn’t think it good to leave Athens alone 2 and sent Timothy, our brother and God’s fellow worker for the good news of the Messiah to strengthen you and to encourage you for your trust 3 to be discouraged by nothing in these troubles. For you know that we are destined for this: 4 for when we were also with you, we told you in advance that we were going to have troubles, as it happened and you know. 5 Therefore I also, unable to endure longer, sent to know your trust, lest somehow the tempter test you and your labor come to nothing.
6 And now when Timothy comes to us from you and tells us the good news of your trust and your love and that you have memory of us always, longing to see us just as we long to see you, 7 therefore we are comforted, brothers, about you, in every distress and trouble of ours, through your trust, 8 for now we live if you stand firm in the lord. 9 For we can return some thanks to God about you for all the joy with which we rejoice through you before our God, 10 night and day praying very earnestly to see your face and complete the things lacking in your trust.
11 And may God himself as well as our lord Yeshua direct our way to you: 12 and may the lord make your love for each other and for everyone be full and overflow, just like ours for you also does, 13 so that your hearts may be established as blameless before God, also our father, in the coming of our lord Yeshua with all his holy ones[, amen].

To the Thessalonians A 4: 1-12: A Life Pleasing to God
1 Finally therefore, brothers, we ask and urge you in the lord Yeshua, that just as you received it from us, you should somehow walk with and please God, just as you also walk, so that you may increase more. 2 For you know what promises we have given you through the lord Yeshua. 3 For this is God’s will, your holiness, that you keep away from sexual impurity, 4 to know that each of you take a wife for himself in holiness and reverence, 5 not in lustful passion of desire like the gentiles who don’t know God, 6 lest you sin against and cheat your brother in the affair, therefore the lord is the punisher of all these, just as we told and bore witness to you. 7 For God didn’t call us to impurity but in holiness. 8 For that reason the one who rejects it doesn’t reject man but God, who [also] gives us the holy spirit.
9 And about hospitality you have no need for me to write you, for you yourselves are taught by God to love one another, 10 for you also do so to all the brothers [who are] in all Macedonia. And we urge you, brothers, to increase more 11 and to make it your ambition to live a quiet life and to do your own things and to work with your [own] hands, just as we told you, 12 so that you may walk respectably with those outside and have need of nothing.

To the Thessalonians A 4: 13-5: 11: The Lord’s Coming
13 And we don’t want you to be ignorant, brothers, about those who are asleep, so that you won’t grieve like the rest who also don’t have hope. 14 For if we believe that Yeshua died and was raised, thus also God will bring those who fell asleep in Yeshua with him.
15 For we tell you these things in the lord’s word, that we living ones remaining for the lord’s coming will not precede those who have fallen asleep: 16 for the lord himself, with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with God’s trumpet-blast, will descend from heaven and the dead in Messiah will rise first, 17 then we living ones who remain will be snatched together with them on the clouds to meet the lord in the air: then we will always be with him.
18 Thus encourage one another with these words.
1 And about times and seasons, brothers, I don’t need to write you, 2 for you yourselves know well that as a thief in the night, so will the day of the lord come. 3 When they say, “Peace and safety,” then sudden destruction will be imminent, even as birth pains to a pregnant woman*, and they will certainly not flee. 4 And you, brothers, are not in darkness, that the day will come on you like a thief: 5 for all of you are sons of light and sons of day. We aren’t of night nor of darkness: 6 therefore let us not sleep like the rest but be awake and sober. 7 For those who sleep sleep at night and those who get drunk get drunk at night: 8 but we, being of the day, are alert, wearing the breastplate of trust and love and the hopeful helmet of salvation: 9 for God didn’t set us for wrath but rather for the possession of salvation through our lord Yeshua the Messiah 10 who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep we will live with him. 11 Therefore encourage each other and build one another up, just as you do.

To the Thessalonians A 5: 12-28: Final Exhortations and Greetings
12 And we ask you, brothers, to know those among you who are weary and those who guide you in the lord and those who instruct you 13 and to increase them even more in love through their work. Be at peace with yourselves. 14 And we urge you, brothers, teach the lazy, comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 15 Watch lest anyone pay back evil for evil to anyone, but rather always pursue good [both] to one another and to everyone.
16 Always rejoice, 17 pray constantly, 18 rejoice in everything: for this is God’s will in the Messiah Yeshua for you. 19 Don’t extinguish the spirit, 20 don’t despise prophecies, 21 test everything, hold on to the good, 22 flee from all knowledge of evil.
23 And may God himself make you completely holy, and may your entire spirit and life* and body be kept whole for the coming of our lord Yeshua the Messiah. 24 The one calling you is faithful, who will also do it.
25 Brothers, pray [also] for us.
26 Greet all the brothers with a holy kiss.
27 I charge you by the lord to have the letter read to all the brothers.
28 The grace of our lord Yeshua the Messiah be with you.
