According to Luke 1: 5-25: The Birth of John the Baptist Foretold
5 In those days (when) Herod (was) king of Judea there was a certain priest by the name of Zechariah from the division* of Abia, and his wife (was descended) from the female line of Aaron and her name (was) Elisabeth. 6 And both were righteous in God's judgement, walking in all the commandments and requirements of the lord(,) blameless. 7 And they did not have** a child, because Elisabeth was barren, and both were advanced in their days.
8 But (when) he was in his service as a priest in the order of his division before God, 9 according to the custom of the priesthood the offering of incense fell to him(,) to enter*** the sanctuary of the lord, 10 and all the multitude of the people was praying outside for the hour of offering incense. 11 But a messenger**** of the lord standing at the right of the altar of offering incense was seen by him. 12 And seeing (him) Zechariah was upset and fear fell on him. 13 But the angel said to him, "Do not be afraid, Zechariah, because your earnest prayer has been heard, and your wife Elisabeth with bear a son for you and you will call his name John. 14 And he will be a joy and extreme gladness to you and many will rejoice at his birth. 15 For he will be great before [the] lord, and he must not drink wine and strong drink, and he will be filled (with) the holy spirit (while) yet from his mother's womb, 16 and he will return many of the sons of Israel to the lord their God. 17 And he will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to return the hearts of the fathers to the children and being sent forth in the way of thinking of the righteous, to prepare an equipped nation for the lord."
18 And Zechariah said to the messenger, "By what will I know this? For I am old and my wife advanced in her days." 19 And answering the messenger said to him, "I am Gabriel who stand before God to tell the report to you and announce***** these (things) to you: 20 and behold you will be silent and unable to speak until the day these (things) happen, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their time.
21 And the nation was waiting for Zechariah and were amazed at his delay in the sanctuary. 22 But (when he) came out he was unable to speak to them, and they knew that he saw a vision in the sanctuary: and he was making signs to them and stayed mute. 23 And it happened as the days of his service were fulfilled, he went out from his house.
24 But after these days his wife Elisabeth became pregnant and kept herself in seclusion for five months saying, 25 that 'Thus the lord has done for me in the days which he concerned himself to take away my disgrace among men.'

46 And Mary said, "My soul praises the lord, 47 and my spirit was extremely glad at God my savior, 48 because he looked with care on the humble state of his slave. For behold from now on all generations will consider me happy, 49 because the strong one has done great (things) for me, and his name (is) holy. 50 And his mercy (goes) to generations and generations to those who fear him. 51 He did a mighty deed with his arm, he scattered wronging ones with the intention of their heart; 52 he overthrew (them) from their thrones and lifted up the humble, 53 he filled those hungry of good and sent the rich our emptyhanded. 54 Israel his child was helped(,) he remembered mercies, 55 just as he said to your fathers, to Abraham and his seed forever."

And they were all amazed. 64 But his mouth was opened immediately(,) as well as his tongue, and he spoke praising God. 65 And fear came on all the neighbors, and in all the hill country of Judea they discussed all these events. 66 And all those who heard wondered in their heart saying, "What then will this child be?" According to Luke 1: 67-80: The Prophecy of Zechariah
67 And Zechariah his father was filled (with) the holy spirit and prophesied saying,
68 "Blessed (is) the lord(,) the God of Israel, because he selected and made redemption for his people, 69 and raised up a mighty* savior for us in the house of David his child, 70 just as he said through the mouth of his holy prophets from the beginning, 71 salvation out of our enemies and out of the hand of all who hate us, 72 to do mercy with our father and to be remembered of his holy covenant, 73 the oath which he swore to Abraham our father to give us 74 unafraid(,) being recued by the hand of our enemies to worship him 75 in holiness and righteousness before him for all our days. 76 But *you* also, child, will be called prophet of the most high: for you will go before the lord to prepare his ways, 77 to give knowledge of salvation to his people in forgiveness of their sins, 78 through our God's compassion (and) mercy, in which the dawn selected us out of the heights, 79 to give light to those sitting in the darkness and shadow of death, to guide our feet in the path of peace.
80 And the child grew and was seized by the spirit, and was in the deserted places until the day of his public appearance to Israel.

4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee(,) from the city of Nazareth(,) to Judea(,) to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was from the house and lineage of David, 5 to be counted with Mary who was betrothed to him (and who) was pregnant. 6 But it happened that *they*(,) the days of her pregnancy(,) were fulfilled there, 7 and she bore her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes and hid him in a manger, because there was not a place in the inn for them.

According to Luke 2: 8-21: The Shepherds and the Angels
8 And shepherds were in this region living outside and taking turns keeping watch by night on their flock. 9 And a messenger of the lord came upon them and the glory of the lord shone around them, and they were afraid (with) great fear. 10 And the messenger said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold I tell you good news (of) great joy which will be to all the nation. 11 Because today a savior(,) who is Christ the lord(,) was born to you in the city of David. 12 And this (is) a sign to you, you will find an infant wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger. 13 And suddenly there was a congregation of the army of heaven with the messenger praising God and saying,
14 "Glory in the highest to God and on the earth peace among men of favor."
15 And it happened (that) as the messengers departed from them into heaven, the shepherds spoke to one another, "Let us go now as far as Bethlehem and see this that has been born which the lord has made known to us. 16 And they went hurrying and searched and found even Mary and Joseph and the infant lying in the manger: 17 and seeing they explained about the saying that was told to them about this child. 18 And all the hearers were amazed about what was said by the shepherds to them: 19 but Mary guarded these words(,) considering in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned glorifying and praising God for all that they heard and saw(,) just as it was told to them.
21 And when the eight days of his circumcision were fulfilled they also called his name Jesus, which he was called by the messenger before he was conceived in the womb.

29 "Now you release your slave, master, in peace according to your word: 30 because my eyes have seen your salvation, 31 which has been prepared against the face of all the nations, 32 a light for a revelation of the gentiles and praised (by) his nation Israel."
33 And his father was(,) as well as his mother(,) marveling at what was said about him. 34 And Symeon praised them and said to Mary his mother, "Behold this (one) is appointed for a fall and rising up of many in Israel and for a controversial sign 35 --and [but] a sword will pierce your own heart-- as it is uncovered from the thoughts of all hearts.

According to Luke 3: 1-20: The Preaching of the John the Baptist
1 And in the fifteenth year of Tiberius Caesar's rule, when Pontius Pilate ruled Judea, and Herod was tetrarch of Galilee, and Philip his brotherwas tetrarch of Iturea and the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias was tetrarch of Abilene, 2 in the highpriesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came on John son of Zechariah in the desert. 3 And he went into all [the] region surrounding the Jordan preaching baptism of repentance into forgiveness of sins, 4 as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet,
A voice calling in the desert, "Prepare the way of the lord, make his paths straight: 5 each valley will be filled and each mountain and hill will be brought low and crooked roads will be (changed) into straightness and the rough into smooth roads: 6 and all flesh will see God's salvation."
7 Therefore he said to the crowds who came out to be baptized by him, "Children of snakes, who warned you to flee from the future wrath? 8 So produce holy fruits of repentance and do not begin to say in yourselves, 'We have father Abraham.' For I tell you that God can raise children for Abraham out of these stones. 9 But now the axe stands at the root of the tree: therefore each tree not producing good fruit will be cut out and thrown into fire."
10 And the crowds asked him saying, "So what will we do?" 11 And answering he said to them, "He who has two cloaks must give to him who has none, and he who has food must do likewise." 12 But tax collectors came to be baptized and said to him, "Teacher, what will we do?" 13 And he said to them, "Collect nothing beside what is due to you." 14 And soldiers asked him saying, "And what will we do?" And he said, "Take no money by violence nor cheat and be satisfied with your pay."
15 But when the nation awaited and all argued in their hearts about John, whether perhaps he might be the Christ, 16 John answered saying to all, "Indeed I baptize you with water: but one stronger than I comes, of whom I am not worthy to untie the straps of his sandals: he will baptize you in the holy spirit and fire: 17 of whom the winnowing shovel in his hand threshes out his threshing and gathers the grain into his barn, but the chaff will be completely burnt by unquenchable fire." 18 Therefore indeed encouraging many others he brought the good news (to) the nation. 19 But Herod the tetrarch, being angered by him about Herodias the wife of his brother and about all the evil Herod did, 20 even proceeded to this on all (the other evil deeds) [and] put John in prison.
