According to John 12: 20-26: Some Greeks Seek Jesus
20 And there were some Greeks from those going up to worship in the feast: 21 therefore these came to Philip from Bethsaida of Galilee and asked him saying, “Lord, we want to see Jesus.” 22 Philip comes and speaks to Andrew, Andrew comes(,) also Philip(,) and they speak to Jesus. 23 And Jesus answers them saying, “The hour is coming when the son of man will be glorified. 24 Truly(,) truly I tell you, if the kernel of wheat doesn’t fall to the ground (and) die, it remains alone (by) itself: and if it dies, it bears a great fruit. 25 He who loves his life* will lose it, and he who hates his life* in this world will guard it in eternal life. 26 If anyone serves me, he must follow me, and where I am my servant will also be: if anyone serves me the father will honor him.

According to John 12: 27-36a: The Son of Man Must be Lifted Up
27 Now my soul is troubled, and what did I say? Father, save me from this hour? On the contrary for this I came to this hour. 28 Father, glorify your name.” Therefore a voice came from heaven, “And I glorified (it) and I will glorify (it) again.” 29 Therefore the crowd standing and listening said it was thunder, but others said, “An angel has spoken to him.” 30 Jesus answered and said, “This voice didn’t come for me but for you. 31 Now there is judgment of this world, now the ruler of this world is thrown out: 32 and if I am lifted up from the earth, I will attract everyone to myself.” 33 And he said this indicating that they were about to do (him) to death(,) kill (him). 34 Therefore the crowd answered him, “We heard from the law that the Christ remains forever, and how do you say that the son of man must be lifted up?” 35 Therefore Jesus spoke to them, “The light is still in you a little time. Walk as you have light, lest darkness over come you: and he who walks in darkness doesn’t know where he’s going. 36 As you have light, believe in the light, so that you may be sons of light.”

According to John 12: 36b-43: The Unbelief of the Jews
36 Jesus said these (things), and going away he hid from them.
37 And when he did such miracles before them they didn’t believe in him, 38 so that the world of Isaiah the prophet which says,
Lord, who believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the lord been revealed?
might be fulfilled. 39 Therefore they couldn’t believe, because again Isaiah said,
40 He has blinded their eyes and made their heart stubborn, lest they see with eyes and repent with heart and turn and he would heal them.
41 Isaiah said these (things) because he saw his glory, and spoke about him. 42 Nevertheless(,) however(,) many of the rulers believed in him, but because of the Pharisees did not confess lest they be excommunicated: 43 for they loved the glory of men more than the glory of God.

According to John 12: 44-50: Judgment by Jesus’ Word
44 And Jesus cried out and said, “He who believes in me doesn’t believe in me but rather in him who sent me, 45 and he who sees me sees him who sent me. 46 I came (as a light for the world, so that each who believes in me won’t remain in darkness. 47 And if anyone hears my words and doesn’t guard (them), I won’t judge him: for I didn’t come to judge the world, but to save the world. 48 He who rejects me and doesn’t receive my words has his judgment: the word that I spoke(,) that judges him in the last day. 49 Because I didn’t speak from myself, but rather the father who sent me(,) he gave me a command (about) what I speak and what I say. 50 And I know that his command is eternal life. Therefore what I say, just as the father told me, I say (it) thus.”

According to John 13: 1-20: Washing the Disciples’ Feet
1 And before the feast of the passover Jesus saw that the hour had come for him to depart from this world to the father, loving his own in the world(,) he loved them to the end. 2 And when there was a banquet, the devil entered the heart in order that Judah Simon Iscariot might betray him, 3 seeing that the father had given him everything in (his) hands and that he had come from God and is going to God, 4 he got up from the banquet and put on his cloak and taking a towel he wrapped (it) around himself: 5 and then he pours water in the washbasin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and dry them with the towel with which he was wrapped. 6 Therefore he comes to Simon Peter: he says to him, “Lord, are you washing my feet?” 7 Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you don’t understand yet, and you will know after these (things).” 8 Peter says to him, “You certainly won’t wash my feet ever.” Jesus answers him, “If I don’t wash you, you don’t have a portion with me.” 9 Simon Peter says to him, “Lord, don’t only wash my feet but (my) hands and head also.” 10 Jesus says to him, “There’s no need of what you said except to wash your feet. But everything is clean: and you* are clean, but not all (of you).” 11 For he knew his betrayer: because of this he said that ‘All of you aren’t clean.’
12 Therefore when he washed their feet [and] took his cloak and sat down again, he said to them, “Do you know what I’ve done? 13 You call me The teacher and The lord, and you say well, for I am. 14 Therefore if I(,) the teacher and lord(,) washed your feet, you should also wash feet: 15 for I have given you an example so that just as I did to you you might also do. 16 Truly(,) truly I tell you, a slave is not greater than his master nor is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him. 17 If you hear these (things), you are happy if you do them. 18 I don’t speak about all of you: I know I chose some: but so that the writing may be fulfilled, He who ate my bread lifted up his heel against me. 19 From now I tell you before being born, so that you may believe where I will be because I am. 20 Truly(,) truly I tell you, he who receives whoever sent me receives me, and he who receives me receives the one who sent me.”

According to John 13: 21-30: Jesus Foretells His Betrayal
21 Saying these things [the] Jesus was disturbed by the spirit and witnessed and said, “Truly, truly I tell you that one of you will betray me.” 22 The disciples looked at each other uncertain about whom he speaks. 23 And one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclining on Jesus’ lap. 24 Therefore Simon Peter nodded to this one to ask who this one might be of whom he speaks. 25 Therefore that one, as he lay on Jesus’ chest, says to him, “Lord, who is it?” 26 [The] Jesus answers, “That one is he to whom I will dip the piece of bread and give it to him. Therefore dipping the piece of bread he [takes it and] gives it to Judah of Simon Iscariot. 27 And after the piece of bread, then Satan entered that one. Therefore Jesus tells him, “Do what you’re doing quickly.” 28 [And] none of those reclining knew what he told him to do: 29 for some thought, because Judah had the money bag, that [the] Jesus told him, ‘Buy what we need for the feast,’ or that he might give something to the poor. 30 Therefore taking the piece of bread that one went out immediately. And it was night.

31 Therefore when he went out, Jesus says, “Now the son of man is glorified, and God is glorified in him: 32 [if God is glorified in him,] God will also glorify him in him, and immediately he will glorify him. 33 Children, still for a little I am with you: seek me, and just as I told the Jews that ‘Where I am going you can’t come,’ I also tell you now. 34 I give you a new commandment, that you love each other, just as I loved you so that you may also love each other. 35 In this you all will know that you’re my disciples, if you have love for each other.”

36 Simon Peter says to him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus answers [him], “Where I’m going you can’t follow me now, but you will follow later.” 37 Peter says to him, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I’ll lay down my life for you.” 38 Jesus answers, “You’ll lay down your life for me? Truly, truly I tell you, a rooster certainly won’t cry until you deny me thrice.”

According to John 14: 1-14: Jesus the Way to the Father
1 Don’t let your* heart be troubled: believe in God and believe in me. 2 In my father’s house there are many rooms: and if not, didn’t I tell you that I’m going to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and I prepare a place for you, I will come again and will draw you to myself, so that where I am you may be also. 4 And where I [I] am going you know the way.”
5 Thomas says to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you’re going: how can we know the way?” 6 [The] Jesus says to him, “I am the way and the truth and the life: no one comes to the father except through me. 7 If you have known me, you know my father also. And from now you know him and have seen him.” 8 Philip says to him, “Lord, show us the father, and it is enough for us.” 9 Jesus says to him, “I am with you* so much time and you** don’t know me, Philip? He who has seen me has seen the father: how do you say, ‘Show us the father?’ 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the father and the father is in me? The words that I say to you I don’t speak from myself, but the father staying in me does his works. 11 Believe me that I am in the father and the father in me: and if not, through their deeds you know them. 12 Truly, truly I tell you, he who believes in me and the works that I do, that one will do and will do greater things than these, because I am going to the father: 13 and whatever you ask in my name, I will do this, so that the father may be glorified in the son: 14 whatever you ask me in my name I will do.

According to John 14: 15-31: The Promise of the Spirit
15 If you love me, you will keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the father and he will give you another comforter, so that he may be with you forever, 17 the spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it doesn’t see nor know him: you know him, because he remains near you and is in you. 18 I won’t leave you orphans, I come to you. 19 Still a little and the world will no longer see me, but you will see me, because I live and you will live. 20 In that day you will know that I’m in my father and you are in me and I in you. 21 He who has my commands and keeps them, that one is the one who loves me: and he who loves me will be loved by my father, and I will love him and reveal myself to him.”
22 Judah, not Iscariot, says to him, “Lord, [and] what has been done that you are going to reveal yourself to us and not the world?” 23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves me he will keep my word, and my father will love him and we will come to him and make a room with him. 24 He who doesn’t love me doesn’t keep my words: and the word which you hear isn’t mine but rather belongs to the father who sent me.
25 I said these things to you while staying with you: 26 and the counselor, the holy spirit, whom the father will send in my name, that one will teach you everything and remind you of everything that I [I] told you.
27 I leave you peace, I give you my peace: not like the world gives to I give to you. Your heart must not be troubled nor afraid. 28 You heard that I told you, ‘I’m going and I come to you.’ If you loved me, rejoice because I’m going to the father, because the father is greater than me. 29 And now I have told you before to be born, so that when it happens you will believe. 30 No longer will I say many things with you, for the ruler of the world is coming: and in me he has nothing, 31 but rather so that the world might know that I love the father, and just as the father commanded me, thus I do. Get up, let’s go from here.

According to John 15: 1-17: Jesus the True Vine
1 I[i/] am the true vine and my father is the gardener. 2 Each branch in me that doesn’t bear fruit, he takes it away, and each that bears fruit, he prunes* it so that it may bear more fruit. 3 Now you are clean through the word I’ve spoken to you: 4 you remain in me, and I in you. Just as a branch can’t bear fruit from itself unless it remains in the vine, thus you neither unless you remain in me. 5 I am the vine, you the branches. He who remains in me and I in him, this one bears much fruit, because without me you can’t do anything. 6 Unless someone remains, he is thrown out like a branch and is withered and they gather them and throw them into the fire and he dies. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you want, in it will be for you. 8 In this my father is glorified, so that you may bear much fruit and me disciples to me. 9 Just as the father loved me, I also loved you: remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you remain in my love, just as I have kept my father’s commands and remain in his love.
11 I have said these things to you so that my joy might be in you and your joy might be full. 12 This is my command, that you love each other just as I loved you. 13 No one has greater love than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I ordered you. 15 No longer do I call you slaves, because the slave doesn’t know what the master is doing: but I have called you friends, because all that I heard from my father I made known to you. 16 You didn’t choose me, but rather I chose you and planted you so that you may go and bear fruit and your fruit may remain, so that whatever you ask the father for in my name he may give you. 17 I order these things for you, that you may love each other.
*This word is similar to that meaning ‘to clean’

According to John 15: 18-16: 4a: The World’s Hatred
18 If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before you. 19 If you were from the world, the world loved its own: but because you aren’t from the world, but rather I chose you from the world, for this reason the world hates you. 20 Remember the world that I told you, ‘A slave isn’t greater than his master.’ If it persecuted me, it will also persecute you: if it kept my word, they would also keep what is yours. 21 But rather they do these things to you because of my name, because they don’t know him who sent me. 22 Unless I came and spoke to you, they wouldn’t have had sin: but now they don’t have an excuse for their sins. 23 He who hates me also hates my father. 24 If I didn’t do my works which no other has done in them, they wouldn’t have had sin: but now they have also seen and hated both me and my father. 25 But so that the word in their law written that They hated me freely might be fulfilled.
26 When the counselor whom I will send to you from the father comes, the spirit of truth who comes from the father, that one will witness about me: 27 and you will also witness, because* you are with me from the beginning.
1 I have told you these things so that you may not sin. 2 They will make you banished from the synagogue: but the hour is coming that each who kills you will praise worship brought to God. 3 And they will do these things because they haven’t known the father nor me. 4 But I have told you these things so that when their hour comes you will remember them because I spoke to you.

According to John 16: 4b-15: The Work of the Spirit
And I didn’t tell you these things from the beginning, because I was with you. 5 But now I’m going to him who sent me, and no one of you is asking me, ‘Where are you going?’ 6 But because I have told you these things grief has filled your heart. 7 But rather I tell you the truth, it is good for you that I am going. For if I don’t go, the counselor won’t come to you: and if I go, I’ll send him to you. 8 And coming that one chose the world about sin and about righteousness and about judgment: 9 indeed about sin, because they don’t believe in me: 10 and about righteousness, that I’m going to the father and you won’t see me any longer: 11 and about judgment, that the ruler of this world has been judged.
12 I still have much to tell you, but you can’t bear it yet: 13 but when that one, the spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you in all truth: for he won’t speak from himself, but as much as he hears he will say and will announce the coming one to you. 14 That one will praise me, because he will be received from me and will announce to you. 15 Everything, as much as the father has, is mine: for this reason I told you that he receives from me and announces to you.

According to John 16: 16-24: Sorrow Will Turn into Joy
16 A little time and you will no longer see me, and again a little while and you will see me.” 17 Therefore some of his disciples said to each other, “What is this that he tells us, ‘A little and you won’t see me, and again a little and you will see me?’ and, ‘That I’m going to the father?’ ” 18 Therefore they said, “What is this ‘little’ [that you say]? We don’t know what he’s saying.” 19 [The] Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, and said to them, “You’re seeking concerning this with each other because I said, ‘A little and you won’t see me, and again a little and you will see me?’ 20 Truly, truly I tell you that you will weep and mourn, but the world will rejoice: you will grieve, but your grief will become joy. 21 A woman has grief when she is giving birth, because her hour has come: but when the child is born, she no longer remembers the distress because of the joy that a man has been born into the world. 22 And therefore you now have grief indeed: but I will see you again, and your heart will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. 23 And in that day you won’t ask me anything. Truly, truly I tell you, whatever you ask the father in my name, he will give it to you. 24 Until now you didn’t ask anything in my name: ask and receive, so that your joy may be full.

According to John 16: 25-33: I Have Overcome the World
25 I have told you these things in proverbs: an hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in proverbs, but rather announce to you openly about my father. 26 In that day you will ask in my name, and I don’t tell you that I will ask my father about you: 27 for the father himself loves you, because you have loved me and believed that I came from [the] God. 28 I came from the father and went into the world: again I leave the world and go to the father.”
29 His disciples say, “Behold now you speak openly and don’t say any proverb. 30 Now we know that you know everything and don’t have need that anyone ask you: in this we believe that you came from God.” 31 Jesus answered them, “Now do you believe? 32 Behold an hour comes and has come so that each of you may scatter to your own things and leave me alone: and I’m not alone, because the father is with me. 33 I have told you these things so that you may have peace in me: in the world you have trouble: but take courage, I have defeated the world.”
